  1. My reading of this is that it will probably be released today. Given that probably means anywhere from 50-80% and in dev speak more like 30-60%, don't hold your breath. Stuff happens with coding or uploading or anything, until he posts it will be up in an hour, don't take it as gospel. Thus is the way of alphas and betas.
  2. The game isn't real time and not like JABIA (which I think sucked too). The new Xcom looks to have an initial planinng phase where you plot out everything in paused state and then after you commit to your plan it occurs in a real time fashion. This appears to be on a per soldier basis, not a whole company. So really there is no difference to OG x-com except in OG x-com you can commit to walking one block at a time instead of always moving four or five steps. Granted that committing to walking further could be a huge difference, but it is really the exact same turn based action as OG x-com, just prettier and with occasional "glam cam" camera shots during events for added flash.
  3. I agree with all your sentiments. I have also been reluctant to part with cash as I have seen some solid improvement in art, but have been more than a little concerned about the progress of the AI and other major features/bugs and the possibility of projects losing steam and being abandoned. Definitely nice to see the AI being taken care of and am really looking forward to some positive movement and additional news with the next release. I also think that a Kickstarter fund would be helpful. Although Double Fine is a true success story, a more reasonable goal may be something like FTL. Also an indie game with a smaller budget than Xenonauts, hoped to raise $10k. In less than 72 hours they are now at $70k! Given the definite quality difference between this game (looks very indie and low budget/low graphic fidelity) compared to Xenonauts (really an indie AAA title), I think Xenonauts could do quite well. Another key would be to point out that funds donated go 100% to making the product better! I think folks really respond to that. I even think their backing prizes would work great for Xenonauts, with some price adjustments, I was think something like the following: <$20 - A nice thank you. $20 - Pre-order with early access to the beta. $30 - Above and a Premium Pre-order badge on the forum and a PDF instruction manual with detailed back stories, equipment lists, tips and more. $40 - Above and PDF art book, a digital copy of the soundtrack and a thank you in the game's credits. $80 - Above rewards and an extra game & beta key for a friend. $100 - Above $40 rewards (no extra beta key for friend), a limited edition poster and your name will placed in the Xenonauts rosters so that players can hire you on their team. (This reward limited to 100 people to make it more "exclusive"). Higher awards would have to be decided on by Chris, but I think that is a great start!
  4. Sorry, but I've seen this a bit too frequently today not to point it out: Patience not patients, thanks. (Not trying to be a jerk, just kind of annoying.)
  5. Looking forward to the next build. Thinking that is when I'll jump in for 2 pre-orders.
  6. Also the number of different alien types is also from that article. I guess the question is, do we really need 8 types of armor? What does this add to gameplay? If the answer is that it is just more, then that can actually be a negative.
  7. Hey all, Just wanted to throw out some thoughts I had regarding the game and a general design philosophy. On the forums and RPS, I have read a number of things: -30 different weapons (not including grenades). -40 different types of aliens. -6 (or 8, can't remember) types of interceptors. -8 types of armor I know the project is going for a re-imagining of X-COM that avoids the simplification, but I am a bit worried that the goal might be focused on too much on numbers. Given the decreased budget, an increased number of weapons, armor, aliens, interceptors leads to decreased quality or increased cost/time for release. Furthermore, I am not really sure that the increase in number really increases play options. Most of the time I try to tech up to my favorite weapons and then just use those. Really this will come down to a full list and understanding of the options and the rate that we tech up and proceed in the game, but I really wanted to know the groups thoughts. So would you really use all the options? Would you rather have a greater focus or more option? P.S. Tried not to sell my point too much and leave the discussion open.
  8. You might not want to advertise your torrenting of games on a developers site. Even if it is another person's games. In general, this forum is becoming a bit vitreous, think I might not check back for a while until the rage over xcom starts to calm down. I personally and excited to see both. At first I was annoyed about xcom competing with xenonauts, then that they were changing xcom, but now, I am happy that I get two different takes on my favorite game of all time. I think it would do the community a huge favor to not malign and trash talk another game.
  9. Holy shit Chris, that looks great!!! I am really excited to see all the progress coming down the pipe. Any idea/timetable set for next press build and then beta? I am anxious to pre-order, but know I'll play it soon after the pre-order and don't want a alpha stability feel to be my first experience. What resolution do you have available? 1920x1200? 1920x1080?
  10. I too would love to see something like this. Maybe a sticky in suggestions similar to the bug list that includes planned features and what version you plan to implement them. Then include features which you like, but may not be able to add without additional funding/time. This way people see the direction things are headed, what features are planned, what could be added with additional premium pre-orders and what isn't planned so they can make their suggestions. Sathra???
  11. Definately aware this is Alpha level right now, and I am so okay with that. I was just hoping to see a new build/slightly more functional build before I pulled the trigger on multiple christmas presents.
  12. Pretty much what it says in the question. I'd love to grab this game for myself and a buddy, but feel I've been burned a couple times buying Alphas/Betas. So far everything sounds really great, but I was hoping for a new press version before I took the plunge. Any ETA? How long before in missions save get done? How's everyone feeling about this game right now? Seems all the posts I've read, pretty much all of them, are positive.
