We figured you guys could use something to do while we build the site, so we installed a fun little vB add-on to pass the time. Let's see who can get the highest scores! (http://www.weplayciv.com/forums/arcade.php)

Awesome!!! :D

Based on the sudden drop in activity and the number of people playing, I'd say this is a success... perhaps even too much of a success ;)

Nice. :b:

Any cheap 8-bit versions of Civ available? ;)

Buster's Uncle

I doubt it's 8-bit, but not much better- I have Civ1 somewhere- and I think they released a version into the public domain or something. I got [the full game] on a CG+ magazine demo disk...

I miss CG+. Only gaming mag I've ever seen that was for and by adults.

As it appears by now, you've single-handedly killed the entire forum with it! ;)

Probably a smart content move, though. Way to go.

At least we'll need to spend less time moderating the forums and can focus on actually building a site now ;)

Nothin' wrong with that...

If you want something to moderate, there are a lot of threads and posts in the SMAC forums. Maybe we can get you to try it again!:)

How did Solver get a score of 0?

With difficulty, most likely.

How come you're singling Solver out for thanks? I think we should also thank Locutus and Dale.

My mistake...for my excuse, I'm a little bit tipsy at the moment.

Shows how much I pay attention. I started a thread in the off topic section gloating about being king of the arcade. If I knew this one existed I'd have gloated here instead. :woohoo::1st::woohoo:

Anyways, what are all the different games available to add there? If it is possible at all to add any of the following, Pac-Man, Frogger, Missile Command or Pong. If it is and you did I would absolutely love you for it.

Go to the new arcade and try moon lander.

I never figured out how to win this game.

I never figured out how to win this game.
You center you ship over the beacon using left and right arrow keys. then you have to descend very slowly by using up arrow to slow your descent. If you run out of fuel you are going to crash, so when you start to get low you have to land on the fuel beacon the same way center yourself then slowly descend onto it, then wait for your fuel to refill.

The game is really not that great, it keeps repeating the same 3 screens over and over again. The only change is the effect of gravity gets greater and greater each time you make it through the 3 screens.

I second the question. Where are these tournaments?

Dale

Up the top bar, click "Competitions". There's no created tournaments yet, but they will come. :)

Can we include SMAC?

I'm sure Darsnan has a scenario that can be completed in a month.

MMC

The tournaments are separate from the Arcade. They are for people to organise SMAC and Civ tourneys.

Locutus
07-05-09, 18:16
The tournaments in the postbit only refers to the tournaments from the Competitions feature, not the Arcade ones I don't think. Would be easy to test that though.

I think adding new games should be possible but we might want to be careful not to add too many too fast. If we add 3-4 new games every couple of months or so they feature stays new and fresh for a while and there will be some attainable high scores to try for beyond the first 2-3 months.

If people have suggestions for specific games they want to see, feel free to offer them. I think a lot of games can be found on http://www.ibpdownloads.com/ and anything from http://www.pnflashgames.com/ should (at least in theory) work as well -- between them that should be almost 6000 games (though I'm sure most are crap). Or you can just google vbulletin arcade games, I'm sure there are dozens of other sources as well.

You know what I'd love to see? Some simple Pinball game and maybe (if such a thing exists) a Civ-styled solitaire version. :please:

DarkCloud already created an arcade tournament, and Metaliturtle joined it, yet neither have any mention in the post-bit.

A couple of home-grown games would be swell...

I don't know if that tourney is done yet.

Great fun.:b: Perhaps the number of games should be increased a little, not too much necessarily, but a doubling to 10-15, just to have a varied selection. Is there any Civ-esque flash games out there that could fit in?
