Hi.

This weekend I started to create some graphics to my "fan-art"/Mod for Xenonauts. To make sure that everyone get the same experience of the graphics, I have made a small software.

The file is 90 Mb and I have compressed it with WinRAR.

You need a screen resolution of 640x480 pixel or better. Tested for all Windows-version, not tested on Mac or Linux/Unix.

Installation: Extract the file "animation-demo.rar". Start the "demo" by running the file "animation-demo.exe".

To start the demo, press either 0 (no armour) or 1 (flak jacket). You can press 0 and 1 to change the armour at any time.

Use the numeric key's (1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9) to change the direction of the animation.
Use W for Walking
Use S for Stop
Use R for Running
Use D for Die (note: after a short period the figure will start walking)

Note: I know there are an error in flak-jacket in the animations "Walk" and "Die".

This first demo contain only male soldier, with M16.

When the graphics is reduced to game-size, it look as busom should have been bigger...:rolleyes:

A screenshot of next version of my "demo".

Added female soldier, with and without armour, with animations Idle, Walking and Die. New screen resolution 1028x768.

And with that done, I realize that I have made a mistake. These animation should not carry any weapons.

I have to make all animation all over and the new idea is animation for Melee weapons, Pistol, Rifles, Heavy Weapons and Rocket weapons. Then add the weapons, in example pistol, laser pistol or plasma pistol. For the weapons I only have to render the weapons (maybee hands) and this should reduce the time to make the animation - I hope...

Installation:
Download the file AD.exe and run this. This will install the "demo" on your computer. An uninstaller is also provided. Installation file is 182 Mb. You need 184 Mb of free disk space for the installed "demo".

See previous topic for controls.

Changes:
- added female Basic armour -> Key: F
- added female Jackal armour -> Key: G

- new screen resolution has to be 1024x768 or better
- added background picture and changed bacground color
- added background music (The Knack: "My Sharona", top hit in 1979 info: Top 100 Hits of 1979 (http://www.musicoutfitters.com/topsongs/1979.htm))
- added change volum, + and - keys
- added icon for end software (red X in upper right corner)
- added new Icon's for "demo"
- software will now start in fullscreen mode
- will start with male soldier in basic armour
- when "Die" animation is done, soldier will start in "Idle" position
- to end "demo" either click on Red X in upper corner or press ALT+F4

Good Lord, there was some strange music out there. Getting a soundtrack la Battlefield Vietnam together for Xenonauts won't be an easy task. :P

I'm all for The Knack over the promo video for the game. Let Apocalypse Now keep Wagner, we have Chinooks with My Sherona.

Yes, of course, Blondie, Dire Straits and Supertramp stand out, and I do like Rod Stewart. Didn't mean to diss those! :D However there's a lot of disco-electro and pop stuff in there. My Sharona would be great for promo, though.

And, to not only be bitching around, I was actually inspired to dig up other music from that year (and two to three years before) in order to maybe one day have an inofficial soundtrack. You know, it was kind of difficult, but then I remembered that punk was invented in 1977. I made things easier ;)

"I will survive" - Gloria Gaynor - when you get through a UFO swarm
"Tragedy" - Bee Gees - when your retrieval goes pear shaped
"My Sherona" - The Knack - chinook approach music
"Are friends Electric" - Tubeway Army - for those mechanised terror units
"Walking on the Moon" - The police - particularly if the aliens are based on the dark side of it.
"Message in a bottle" - The police - either setting up new bases or launching a distress probe out into space on the off chance of aid.
"Cars" - Gary Numan - to be played in the garage screen
"another brick in the wall" - Pink Floyd - rookie recruitment. a mincing machine should be one of the key props in the training center.
"Oliver's Army" - Elvis costello - beautiful foreshadowing to the Irna /contra affair. To be played at US bases.
"Hit me with your rhythm stick" - Ian Dury. One for the battlescapes
"When you're in love with a beuatiful woman" - Dr Hook - for the return chinook trip reminding the troops what they're doing it for.
"I don't like Mondays" - Boomtown rats -Any mission that goes badly.
"Cool for Cats" - Squeeze - played when you get an armour or weapons upgrade.



"Bright Eyes" - Art Garfunkel. You are in Cydonia and the puppy eyed little sectoid appeals to your human nature. Bright Eyes starts playing in the background.

You burst into tears as all humans listening to Bright Eyes do. You sniffle and try and hold it together. Then the video with all the cute rabbits appears on a screen behind the sectoid. You completely break down in floods of sobs.

Then you shoot it through the head with your plasma pistol, proving the duality of man is the key to it's success.

Extra protection - everybody want extra protection in that aera... Not only for the genitials, but also the main artery is on the inside of the thight.

It was possible to change the color's in that aera, so I made it a litle more shinny to illustrate protection.

You've seperated the hands from the wrists to make the weapons interchangeable I presume. How will you connect the hands to the wrists? by extending the wrists/filling in the gap or by retracting the hands into the wrists?

Is the weapons stock currently clipping the soldiers right arm?

Something looks wonky with the left upper arm in the second from the elft stance. Maybe it's just the shoulderpad that makes it look bent. But it looks like it showing alot of her side in an unnatural way and where is the shadow from? the weapon? is it supposed to be that dark if that's the case?

No. It is a mistake. I made the main figures forearm invisible, because the elbow is penetrating the clothes. I didn't notice that error. Back to drawingboard...

It is a helmet, I just made it flat shaded. Maybee this is a better view?

I found that model on thefree3dmodels.com I didn't notice it say for Crysis 2 and because I am not a fan of Crysis (I have checked now) - I couldn't tell that this was from another game ;)

Does the female helmet look different from the male one or is it just the angle that makes me think it looks off? (It's hard to see which direction they are looking)

Hi.

Here is an update on my fan-art - I am testing out several options here:

- advanced walk-path
- transparency (in front or behind an object?)
- scrolling window
- action points (for a base-turned demo)
- Idle animation
- Walking animation

Other issues I have been testing lately:
- player health
- revocer items

Not solved issues:
- save and load game

I present only screeshots, it is less than a alfa version :)
